Why is it free for sisters?
ٱلرِّجَالُ قَوَّٰمُونَ عَلَى ٱلنِّسَآءِ بِمَا فَضَّلَ ٱللَّهُ بَعْضَهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍۢ وَبِمَآ أَنفَقُوا۟ مِنْ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ
“Men are caretakers of women … and because of the wealth they have spent.”
The Quran ties male authority in marriage directly to financial responsibility — men are qawwamun because they spend from their wealth. This obligation of nafaqah (financial provision) falls on brothers, not sisters. Qurra simply reflects that: those on whom Allah has placed the financial duty of marriage are the ones who pay.
